Director Review

Clint Eastwood

The director that I chose to review is Clint Eastwood. I chose him because he is a very well known actor/director and he has directed many movies from the 1960's up until present day. Pretty much everyone who watches movies knows who he is and knows a few of the movies he has been in or directed. I enjoy watching his movies from the 1980's and up. I'm not really a fan of really old movies but if it is a famous old movie I will probably watch it. I like him because he is very good at what he does. He puts all he has into his movies and that is why he is so famous/well known.

Clint Eastwood is the icon of macho movie stars, and a living legend. Clint didn't really get film until sometime after high school. He started trying out for small movie bits and played small characters in some 50's movies. It wasn't until the end of the decade when he got his breakthrough. He was in a T.V. series called "Rawhide" (1959) which he starred in and made his own. After this he became a household name.

Some of his more famous movies include:

The Rookie -1990

Unforgiven - 1992

A Perfect World - 1993

Space Cowboys -2000

Mystic River - 2003

Million Dollar Baby - 2004

Gran Torino - 2008

These are just a few of the many movies he had directed. Clint Eastwood is truly an amazing actor/director and will be known for many years to come.

Influential Artist/Group- Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath

Bio.

Black Sabbath are an English rock band. Formed in Birmingham in 1968 by Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Terry Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums). Since then the band has experienced many line-up changes. They have had a stunning twenty two former band members. Originally formed as a heavy blues rock group named Earth, the band began incorperating occult- with horror-inspired lyrics with tuned- down guitars, changing their name to Black Sabbath and achieving multiple gold and platinum records in the 1970's.

As one of the first and most influential heavy metal bands of all time, Black Sabbath helped define the genre with releases such as quadruple-platinum Paranoid, released in 1970. They were ranked by MTV as the "Greatest Metal Band" of all time, and placed second in VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" list, behind Led Zeppelin. They have sold over 15 million records in the United States alone. Rolling Stone has identified the band as 'the heavy-metal kings of the '70s'.

Why they are influential...
The group I think is very influential in music history is Black Sabbath. They basically started heavy metal. They were the first real heavy metal band which makes them very influential. You hear a riff or sound a guitar makes, it evolved from Black Sabbath. Thrash sounds are apperent in Symptom of the Universe and epic tones are present in Iron Man and War Pigs. The lyrical ideals of Ozzy Osbourne opened the eyes of many people. They were the heaviest band anyone has heard for that time and they launched a new genre of music with their distorted sound and demonic lyrics. They are truely an amazing band.

Video Review

The video I was going to discuss is one of the most famous songs to date. It is Iron Man by Black Sabbath. You can tell this video is old just by watching it. It was made in the 70's and has trippy colors and camera angles. It is a simple four-man band but together they make a very amazing sound. They are very young in this video also.

Style and Image

Black Sabbath is from the 1970's so they dress kind of like hippies mixed with a hard rocker look. They have the long kind of puffy hair with mustaches. They wear black leather with chains and started the rocker look. Their attitude is kind of these bad-ass British rockers that do what they want and make songs about whatever they want. And they don't really care whose feelings they hurt. This attitude also started bands to push the bounderies of music. Such as controversal lyrics.

Above is a picture of guitarist Tony Iommi.

Target Audience

Black Sabbath's target audience varies from many different age groups. Back when they started the band, the fan base was mainly teens to very young adults. As time went on, teenagers still liked them but the teenegers from when they came out still liked them too. So now a huge range of people like them, all the way from ten-year old kids to adults in their fifties. This is another factor in what makes them so famous. They have such a huge fan base. Everyone knows who they are and at least a couple of their songs.

My Bands

If I had to list my three favourite bands I would have to say they would be Parkway Drive, Lamb of God, and Whitechapel.

Parkway Drive,

I chose Parkway Drive because I love they way they sound. I think they have a really powerful sound with the distorted guitars and the heavy breakdowns. I also like them because I can play a lot of their songs on drums. Below os a link of one of their more popular songs called "Carrion" which is off their album Horizons.

Lamb Of God,

Lamb Of God is a pretty famous metal band. They have been around for a little while and are quite successful in the metal music scene. I like them due to the powerfulness of their music. I just recently saw them live in October and they were amazing live. Their songs usually have a deep meaning which is another reason to like them. Below is a link to one of their most famous songs "Laid To Rest" of their album "Ashes Of The Wake".

Whitechapel,
I chose Whitechapel just because they are one of the heaviest bands I know. I mostly listen to them as pump up music of when I'm in a bad mood. They are slightly controversal lyrically wise, but when it comes down to their music it is just raw metal which appeals to me. Below is a link to one of their best songs in my opinion. It is titled "Possession" off the album "This is Exile".

Three bands that I dont like very much would be Marinas Trench, Coldplay, and Kings of Leon.
I dont like these three bands because I dont like their music both lyrically and instrumentally. I dont like Marinas Trench because I'm not a teenage girl and most of their songs are just repetition. One song sounds just like the other which I'm not a fan of. Now, Coldplay and Kings of Leon. I dont like these two bands because I hear their songs non-stop!!!! They are always on the radio all the time. I do not like this because if I hear a song more than twice a day I start to dislike it. Also, I dont like these bands because they are not the genre of music I prefere. I know how famous they are and all that but their music just does not appeal to me in any way, shape, or form.

The King Of Queens

The TV show that I will be writing about is the sitcom "The King of Queens." This is probably my favourite TV show to watch with "Seinfeld" close behind. I dont watch alot of TV but when I do I will try to watch "The King of Queens." The show is about a middle aged couple living in Queens New York and their daily struggles.

Characters

Doug- Doug is a simple man. He works as a UPS man played by actor/comedian Kevin James. He is a typical "man of the house" and spends most of his time at home or at work. He does not get along with Carrie's father who lives with them. So through out the show they are constantly bickering at eachother while Carrie is stuck in the middle.

Carrie- Carrie (played by Leah Remini) is a typical sharp-tongued housewife. She is a hard working women and works as a legal secretary. Her constant attempts to make her and Doug's relationship and daily lives more romantic and meaningful cause Doug endless frustration and Doug, who prefers things to be simple and to have as few restrictions on his life as possible. The more centered of the couple, Carrie often pushes Doug to make more of himself and improve his morals but can be just as unscrupulous as him.

Arthur- Arther (played by Jerry Stiller) is Carrie's father who lives with Doug and Carrie. He lives with them because he burned his house down by accident in the pilot episode. He is a widowed man and the oddball of the family. Arthur is mostly known for his incoherent outbursts. Arthur is usually seen causing regular chaos and getting on someone's bad side with his antics, craziness, and obnoxious behaviors. Even with all of his bad behavior, deep-down Arthur has a heart of gold, which always manages to shine through, causing Doug and Carrie to feel guilty about yelling at him in the end.

There are also a couple side characters in the TV show.

Deacon Palmer, Played by Victor Williams, is Doug's best friend who he also works with him, Deacon is the more responsible of the two. He is a family man with a wife named Kelly and two sons named Major and Kirby. He is often seen hanging around with Doug weather it be on lunch break, over the weekend, or a family gathering. Even though him and his wife Kelly have relationship problems sometimes, he always finds time to chill with his friends and family.

Spence Olchin, Played by Patton Oswalt. Spence, another friend of Doug, is often viewed as the nerd of the group. Not only is he very paranoid, he also takes an interest in science fiction, fantasy movies and comic book conventions which are things his friends dont care for. Spence demonstrates intelligence and capability in a variety of pursuits, but he is haunted by his family history.

Danny Heffernan, Played by Gary Valentine, Danny Heffernan is Doug's cousin, and he is also seen hanging out with Doug, Spence, and Deacon. In the show's early seasons Doug has a negative view of Danny, bordering on hate. However as the show progressed, they become friends & co-workers, and regularly hang out along with Deacon and Spence. Danny even becomes Spence's roommate in a small apartment. The two often looked as if they were involved in a romantic relationship together, and they fought like a married couple. Gary Valentine and Kevin James are actually brothers in real life.

This photo essay was to show you what the T.V. show/sitcom is about and the characters in it. Also what the characters act like in the T.V. show.

Demographic Profile

Name- Stuart Dunlop
Age-16
Birth- July 7, 1993
Birth Place- London Ontario

Some of my interests would be music, motorcycles and partying with my friends. I love to listen to music as well as play it. Most of the time i will listen to loud/heavy music. When you look at me you probably wouldn't think that i would like heavy music. But don't judge a book by it's cover. I guess it would be my dad that got my into motorcycles. He had a bike and was always working on them. So i was kind of brought up around bikes. Partying. Dont we all like to party once and again? I'm not in to drinking till i pass out or anything like that. I just like to have fun with my friends. I have many other interests but i can't list them all.

I love to watch movies. I watch them all the time. I think i have seen pretty well every movie from when i was born untill now. My favourite movies when i was young was action or comedy movies. Now that i am older i am starting to like horror movies of movies with a good story. A good horror movie that i saw lately was The Orphan. I likes this movie because it was so suspenseful and creepy. It kept you wondering what was going on until the very end. I dont really like to read books but i will read magazines if the article interests me.

Thats Some basic information about me. I'm just a teenager in high school like everybody else my age. Nothing too special about me other than i think i'm one of the pnly people in my school that plays drums as a hobby. So thats basically me. I listed most of my favourite bands and movies and things in my "favourite Types Of Media" post.

3 Favourite Kinds of Media

My three kinds of media that I prefer would be music, movies, and television. I like these three because they appeal to me as opposed to other forms of media such as newspapers and radio.
I chose music because I listen to music all the time. When I'm getting ready in the morning till when I go to bed I am listening to music. I also play the drums as a hobby at home as well as in my school jazz band. I like to listen to heavier genres of music such as heavy metal or hard rock. A few of the bands I like right now are Lamb Of God, Slipknot, Parkway Drive and White Chapel. Those are the heavy bands I like. I also like Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses and AC/DC and hard rock bands like that. I suppose I enjoy this sort of music because I was brought up on music like that. My mom would always listen to 80's bands like Motley Crue and AC/DC. When my friends were listening to the Backstreet boys I was listening to Guns N' Roses. I progressed from that kind of music to the music I listen to now.

The second type of media I like are movies. I like movies because they are usually pretty entertaining depending on the movie. I like action movies as well as horror with alot of suspense. A few of my favourite movies would be Point Break, Rockstar and the Halloween movies and any movies with alot of action and suspense. I also like to watch comedy as well. I'm not quite sure why I like action movies. Maybe its because I'm a guy or maybe cuz it just plain and simple entertains me.

The third kind of media I like would be television. I usually watch t.v. shows and movies instead of the news. I will watch the news occasionally if there is nothing else on and if there is something I find interesting on it. When I watch t.v. I usually watch comedy such as sitcoms like The King Of Queens and Still Standing. I also enjoy cartoons such as Family Guy and The Simpsons. But my favourite show to watch when it is on would be The Trailer Park Boys. The only time I usually watch t.v. is when I'm bored and have nothing to do or when I'm just relaxing. I like to laugh so that is probably why i always watch shows with alot of comedy in them.

The types of media I dont like so much would be the radio and newspapers. I only listen to to the radio for music. I find news on the radio to be kind of annoying for some reason. I guess I just find the voice kind of annoying. I also dont like to read newspapers. I will read them occasionally when I'm on break at work because there is nothing else to do. But if i just want the news I will go to the internet besause it is usually faster and quicker.
